When the Sommer's asked me to do their family portraits for this year I was so excited. Their old photographer had moved and they were long overdo for family portraits. They even added a member to the family (enter overly adorable baby) since their last portraits. Their little girl was in my 3 year old class at the preschool I was teaching at so I knew her personality pretty well. I knew the games she would go for and what would make her laugh so I was't too concerned about getting genuine expressions.
A new location
They wanted to do the shoot at their church, St. Francis of the Field Episcopal Church. They have this beautiful area behind the church that they use for weddings, but I had never been there! I figured if they used it for weddings, i'd probably be ok with lighting, but I really didn't know, it was kind of like walking in blind! The church keeps it locked so I wasn't able to go check it out first either. Luckily it was beautiful! Things a photographers dreams are made of, old rustic buildings, lots of greenery, old brick roads, and more. Definitely somewhere I would love to do more shoots.
A 3 year old and a 6 month old make for good entertainment
Really, if you have never spent the morning with a 3 year old, I highly suggest you do it. They are actually hilarious. Their antics paired with their cute half baby face and half little kid face makes them pure entertainment. I have a 3 year old and I taught 3 year olds so I have some experience with this age. Throw in a baby brother that thinks big sister is hilarious and its all smiles from there. Check out how cute they are and how much they look like each other too!
